Our 2015 Predictions in Communications

The U.S. economy hit the accelerator in the third quarter of 2014, enjoying the fastest expansion in ten years–up 5% between July and August–and Q4 earnings will be strong. Organizations are at last conducting searches for positions that have been frozen in recent years. Specifically, for our communications practice, we see the following trends in 2015:

  • Greater emphasis on global security, intellectual property, privacy issues, coupled with crisis management track record. Following internet hacking debacles at Sony, Target, Home Depot and more, cyber crisis communications is becoming a “must-have.”
  • Strategic internal communications is more greatly valued today due to mergers and acquisitions, because the CEO must be the primary face of integrating two corporate cultures.
  • Large nonprofit organizations are looking for CEOs/Presidents who have greater communications ability than before as the role of a nonprofit leader is increasingly focused on external relations and fundraising.

These trends bode well for communications professionals in 2015 and beyond– we are seeing a higher demand for strategic communications ability and track record of results.
