Firm Profile

In business since 1994, we know why the retained executive search process is so important to our client organizations. Every search is a unique engagement driven by the personality and culture of the organization, and the specific challenges of the role.

Berkhemer Clayton has a long track record of successful senior-level searches for corporations, higher education, nonprofit, and healthcare organizations. We specialize in handling management-level executive searches in three practices: Communications & Marketing, Finance & Investor Relations, and Boards of Directors.

We bring a wealth of experience to these practices because our co-founders and senior management originally came from careers in those fields. Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire previously owned a successful public relations agency which was acquired by a global firm; and Fred Clayton originally worked in banking and built the executive search division of Price Waterhouse.

We understand what makes people successful in our practices, and we stay on top of emerging market trends. We use our extensive personal and professional networks to identify, attract and recruit prospective candidates.

By focusing on our functional specialties, rather than specific industries, we have fewer “off limits” restrictions than other search firms. Therefore we have the advantage of being free to contact more of the most qualified prospective candidates, which results in faster search completion. We also developed our own proprietary Advance 5*15*45 process, which on average brings forward a finalist within eight weeks (41 business days).

We undertake an inclusive search to pursue the best-qualified candidates who have the track record of achievements our clients want. Since the outset of our firm in 1994, more than a third of all executives we placed have been men and women of color, and almost half have been women.
