Berkhemer Clayton Retained Search Placed Kraig Jondle, Director of Marketing and Trade Services at The Port of Los Angeles

Founded in 1907, the Port of Los Angeles is Southern California‘s gateway to international commerce. Located in San Pedro Bay, just 20 miles south of downtown, the Port of Los Angeles is the busiest container-port in the U.S. and the 13th busiest in the world.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Geraldine Knatz, the Port of Los Angeles is also known for its groundbreaking environmental initiatives, progressive security measures, return to capital spending to promote port facilities, and diverse recreational and educational facilities. This newly created position in The Port’s Business Development group is designed to reinforce its commitment to business and dedication to customer service.

As Director of Marketing and Trade Services, Kraig Jondle directly supervises a network of overseas offices in trading centers around the world, providing direct communication with customers, shipping lines, shippers and others to ensure that facilities are utilized at their highest and best use. Trade Services is responsible for implementing a proactive marketing program designed to increase trade activity in the L.A. region, while attracting and retaining beneficial cargo owners to The Port, particularly in the areas of breakbulk, and dry and liquid bulk shippers, emphasizing export cargoes.

Jondle has an impressive track record in business development (increasing market share and retaining and securing cargo volumes), presentation skills, and people management, customer retention, acquisition, sales management, and revenue growth. With experience spanning three coasts and extensive travel, he has worked across the board in transportation and logistics, according to Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire, president of Berkhemer Clayton Inc., who managed the search for The Port of LA.

Previously, Kraig was Vice President of Sales at Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics in New Jersey.  He started his early career in Los Angeles at Scanwell Freight Express in 1994. He was promoted to Regional Manager of Sales and Operations in 1997 and transferred to Houston. He traveled extensively to Asia, developed new territories and accounts within the Gulf region, and managed operations, freight forwarding & non vessel operating common carrier activities for the region, including hiring, training, budgeting, forecasts, sales and logistics. In 2001, he was hired by WWL as VP Sales, North America.
