Berkhemer Clayton Places DeAnn Marshall as VP Marketing and Communications for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles

Retained executive search firm Berkhemer Clayton, Inc. announced that its client, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), selected candidate DeAnn Marshall as Vice President of Marketing and Communications, reporting to President and Chief Executive Officer Rich Cordova.  Berkhemer Clayton handled the search.

DeAnn Marshall was previously Chief Health Sciences Marketing and Communications Officer for the University of California, San Diego, and prior to that she was with Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.  Ms. Marshall will create a comprehensive communications and marketing program for the hospital, The Saban Research Institute, the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Foundation and the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Medical Group, including branding, public relations, marketing and advertising.

Founded 109 years ago, CHLA treats the most seriously ill and injured children in Los Angeles, and is acknowledged nationally and globally for leadership in pediatric and adolescent health. CHLA is one of only 10 children’s hospitals in the nation – and the only children’s hospital on the West Coast – ranked in all 10 pediatric specialties in the U.S. News & World Report rankings and named to its “Honor Roll” of children’s hospitals. CHLA is currently completing a $250 million fund-raising campaign for a new hospital.

At UC San Diego, Ms. Marshall was responsible for overseeing the combined communications, marketing and public affairs efforts encompassing the UC San Diego School of Medicine, the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the UC San Diego Medical Center.   At Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, she was Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer for the $300M Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation.  She also served as Director of Public Relations, Executive Director of Public and Government Affairs, and as Vice President of Public and Government Affairs for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Ms. Marshall also worked for public relations agencies, Burson-Marsteller and Ketchum Communications, and served as a Senior Media Specialist for Allegheny General Hospital. She was named 2003 “Communicator of the Year” by the Public Relations Society of America, and received the Touchstone Award from the American Hospital Association.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in business administration from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
