  Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire, President
Our Leadership Connections Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire


Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire leads the corporate communications, public relations and marketing specialty practices. Betsy has three decades of management experience in corporate communications and public relations.  Prior to establishing Berkhemer Clayton, she launched and built one of the largest independent public relations agencies in Los Angeles, Berkhemer & Kline, which handled national public relations for Nintendo, Toshiba, Southwest Airlines, Price Waterhouse, Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream, Mrs. Fields Cookies, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, and Rebuild Los Angeles.  Berkhemer & Kline was acquired by national PR firm Golin/Harris. She and Fred Clayton founded Berkhemer Clayton in 1994.

Active in community service, Betsy currently serves on the boards of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Southern California Leadership Network (SCLN).  She is immediate past statewide president of the National Association of Women Business Owners – California (NAWBO-CA) and currently chairs the NAWBO-Los Angeles educational Enterprise Institute.  NAWBO-Los Angeles honored her for “Lifetime Achievement” in 2006. Betsy serves on the California Utilities Diversity Council (CUDC), a consortium of public utility companies seeking to enhance diversity in their business operations.

Betsy’s chairs Women Corporate Directors (WCD), Southern California Chapter, and is a member of Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Town Hall of Los Angeles, Organization of Women Executives, Hispanic Corporate Council, UCLA Alumni Association, and Women’s Foundation of CA.
She previously served 12 years on the advisory board of the UCLA
Medical Center.

A graduate of UCLA, Betsy began her career as a journalist with Southern California newspapers and worked for Disney Studios and NBC. She lives in Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles with her husband, Cris Credaire.

  Fred J Clayton
Fred J. Clayton has spent more than 25 years in the executive search and management consulting profession. He has conducted senior and mid-level search assignments in general management, finance and accounting, marketing, human resources, and operations. Industries served include financial services, consumer products, entertainment, retail, distribution, health care, professional services firms and non-profit.

Immediately prior to founding Berkhemer Clayton, Fred was a partner with Ward Howell International, one of the top ten retained search firms worldwide. Previously, he worked with Price Waterhouse for nine years, where he directed the Western U.S. Executive Search and Human Resource Consulting operations, recruiting finance and accounting executives for Price Waterhouse client corporations.

Fred's earlier experience was at Security Pacific National Bank in Los Angeles, where he held management positions in human resources, \par credit and operations.

A University of Southern California graduate, Fred earned his bachelors degree in business administration at USC and completed an Advanced Professional Development Program at the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business. He currently serves on the PricewaterhouseCoopers Los Angeles Alumni Advisory Council.

Fred is immediate past Co-Chairman of the Board of INROADS/Southern California, and was named Board Member of the Year in 1999 and 2006. He is immediate past President of The Paralysis Project of America, which awarded him the Donald G. Watt Award for Distinguished Service, and the Chairman's Award. He also was named " Board Member of the Year 1992" for March of Dimes, Southern California.
